Scene

Setting: Baltimore backyard, seen through a second-story window. Surrounded by rust-red wood-slat fence, shoulder level. Orange tree sole installation of yard visible above fence, bears tiny fruit. Sky has that distinctive look where it will hang on the edge of raining all afternoon but in the end will not.

A man, early to mid 50s, with patchy, gray hair, wearing an ironed lavender shirt, enters from the house to the left, beyond the edges of the window. Stands in front of the tree and looks at it seriously for a long minute. Only his head and shoulders are visible. Man walks halfway around tree and back, occasionally pausing and stooping to inspect something unseen in the soil.

Modest Mouse's "Cowboy Dan" plays.

[Man, I need to get out of here.]
